Managing Stress and Going Meatless: A Journey to Better Health
Managing stress and going meatless can be incredibly beneficial for your health. Many people are making the switch to a plant-based lifestyle for a variety of reasons, including reducing their risk of chronic illnesses, improving their overall physical and mental wellbeing, and taking better care of the environment. But it isn’t always easy to take this step— especially when it comes to managing stress.
Stress is an unavoidable part of life; however, it can have a huge impact on our overall health if left unchecked. Stress can lead to headaches, muscle pain, digestive issues, low energy levels, depression, anxiety, and other mental health concerns. It may even cause more serious medical conditions like heart disease or stroke. So it’s important to find ways to reduce stress in order to stay healthy.
One way to do this is by going meatless. By cutting out animal products from your diet, you can decrease both environmental and personal stress levels significantly. A plant-based diet is not only better for the environment (reducing air pollution from livestock farming and cutting down on water waste from irrigation), but also better for your own physical health as well as your psychological wellbeing.
Studies have shown that consuming a vegetarian or vegan diet can help lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels— two major contributing factors for cardiovascular diseases like heart attack or stroke— as well as reduce inflammation and improve blood sugar control. Eating plants also helps promote weight loss (a known factor in reducing stress levels) and provides essential vitamins and minerals which support optimal brain functioning (helping you better manage emotions). Additionally, studies have found that vegetarian diets are linked with higher levels of happiness than omnivorous diets!
Going meatless doesn’t have to be difficult either; there are plenty of delicious plant-based recipes out there that make the transition more enjoyable (think veggie burgers, quinoa salads, black bean burritos…the list goes on!). And with so many new vegan products available these days at grocery stores across the country— such as dairy-free yogurts, nut milks, veggie sausages etc.— getting necessary nutrients has never been easier!
By managing your stress through dietary changes such as eating a plant-based diet you’ll not only be helping yourself but also the planet! Reducing environmental impact promotes greater sustainability for our planet which in turn leads to fewer sources of personal strain for all its inhabitants— meaning we can all benefit from healthier lives both physically and mentally!
