When every deployment of force is reflexively labeled “totalitarian,” the word loses meaning. Troops on the street aren’t automatically tyranny, nor are they automatically protection. The truth depends on calibration, law, and limits. If force is used to stabilize chaos and protect civilians under lawful oversight, that’s order. If it’s used to intimidate, silence, or bypass due process, that’s abuse. Discernment means refusing to collapse everything into one narrative. Democracy doesn’t die from vigilance, but it does die when fear replaces evidence and slogans replace standards.
