We’re seeing a growing trend of reducing entire states to the actions of a single politician, as if one officeholder erases the dignity, resistance, or nuance of millions. If you believe justice is real work, then it requires more than drawing blue vs. red lines.
Yes, governors hold power. But they’re not the soul of the state. People still live there, resist there, organize there, often at great cost.
Discernment means holding leaders accountable without erasing the efforts of those who haven’t given up. Rights aren’t guaranteed by geography. They’re sustained by courage, clarity, and a refusal to abandon nuance for the ease of outrage.
Blanket narratives don’t make us safer. They just make us shallow.
