There’s a tired exchange in our culture:
“If you don’t like it here, leave.”
“No, we stay because we want to fix it.”
But both lines miss the deeper point.
Loving a country, or any community, doesn’t mean blind loyalty. But neither does it mean tearing it down in the name of progress. Cynicism is easy. Outrage is cheap. And so is empty optimism. The real work is harder: showing up with clarity, accountability, and a willingness to build what we claim to care about.
Fixing the roof means more than pointing at the leak. It means doing the work, without burning the house down or pretending it’s already perfect.
This isn’t about choosing sides. It’s about choosing integrity.
